Meriden 50 km

20/05/17

In which I introduced three unsuspecting types to the joys of audax.  Sadly I didn’t take any photos…

Julie and I had talked about doing a ride together for ages so when I spotted these from just outside Coventry I was happy to travel down for whatever distance she fancied.  Then Jed and Jeremy were talked into it too as training for a 100 mile sp*rt*ve in Birmingham later this year.

They were suitably amused by brevet cards, baked beans and the questionable sanity of long distance riding (or some of the riders, at least).  We had lunch in a pub afterwards and Jed expressed satisfaction that his kids would be suitably embarrassed that he was out in public in lycra, but that at least he wasn’t wearing a ‘mankini’ (i.e. bib shorts).  I kept quiet…well I suppose I don’t have anyone to embarrass.

They all did really well, we were only slightly lower than my usual average speed.  We had torrential rain about half way round but it had pretty much dried up by the finish.
